THE DOUBTERS

THE MOST FAMOUS DOUBTER IS DYDIMUS, THOMAS

John 20:24-27 (KJV)
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

JESUS TOLD HIS DISCIPLES AT LEAST 3 DIFFERENT TIMES THAT HE WOULD BE REJECTED BY RELIGIOUS LEADERS, THEN TO BE KILLED AND THEN RISE AGAIN ON THE THIRD DAY

Mt 20:19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

Mr 8:31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Lu 9:22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.

Lu 17:25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.

WE ARE GOING TO LOOK AT SOME OTHER DOUBTERS.

2. THE WOMEN FOLLOWERS OF JESUS

AFTER HIS CRUCIFIXION AND BURIAL, THE FIRST TO GO TO THE TOMB WERE THE WOMEN. MARY MAGDALEEN, JOANNA, MARY THE MOTHER OF JAMES (WHO ALSO WAS THE WIFE OF CLEOPAS) AND OTHER WOMEN. THEY WENT TO FINISH EMBALMING THE BODY OF JESUS.

Lu 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? {the living: or, him that liveth}
6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8 And they remembered his words,
(KJV)

3. THE 11 APOSTLES AND THE REST OF THE DISCIPLES THAT WERE IN THE UPPER ROOM HIDING OUT.

Lu 24:9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
(KJV)

THESE GOOFY WOMEN AND EMOTIONAL AND IMAGINING THINGS.

4. PETER AND JOHN

Joh 20:2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
(KJV)

THEY BELIEVED MARY THAT SOMEONE HAD STOLEN THE BODY OF JESUS.

5.CLOPAS AND SIMON

Luke 24:20-24 (KJV)
20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

THEN JESUS REBUKES THESE 2 GOES THROUGH THE SCRIPTURE TO THEM EXPLAINING THAT THE SON OF MAN HAD TO DIE AND RISE AGAIN. THEN THEY ATE WITH JESUS AND THEY KNEW HIM AND JESUS DISAPPEARED, THEY IMMEDIATELY RAN BACK TO JERUSALEM TO TELL THE OTHER DISCIPLES AND MARK RECORDS

Mr 16:13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.
(KJV)

IT HAPPENED THOUGH THAT AFTER THIS JESUS APPEARED TO THEM IN THE LOCKED ROOM AND THEY ALL BELIEVED ALTHOUGH SOME STILL STRUGGLED WITH IT. THOMAS WAS NOT HERE AT THIS TIME. 8 DAYS LATER THOMAS WAS THERE AND WE HAVE THE FAMOUS DOUBTER SAYING MY LORD AND MY GOD.

THERE IS A MOVIE OUT NOW AT THE THEATRE CALLED THE CASE FOR CHIRST. IT IS THE STORY OF LEE STROBEL WHO WAS AN INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER WHOSE WIFE GOD SAVED AND HE BEING AN ATHIEST INVESTIGATED THE HISTORICAL FACTS IN REGARD TO THE FACTS OF THE LIFE OF CHRIST. THIS INVESTIGATION LASTED OVER A YEAR AND TOOK HIM ALL OVER THE WORLD. HE GATHERED HIS EVIDENCE AND IS NOW A BELIEVER.

THIS WAS HIS DECIDING FACTOR.

Ac 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

(KJV)

THE RESURRECTION HAD TO HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THE CHANGE IN HIS FOLLOWERS.

THEY WERE AFRAID TO SHOW THEMSELVES IN PUBLIC FOR FEAR OF THE JEWS. AND THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED THEY BECAME FEARLESS FOLLWERS OF CHRIST. THEY WERE BOLD IN THEIR TESTIMONY AND IN THEIR LIVES. EVEN THEIR DEATHS.

Joh 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
(KJV

SO HERE'S THE QUESTION ARE YOU A BELIEVER OR A DOUBTER?
